Billiard Tables
| Question: | What do Billiard Tables, Security doors & Windows furnishings have in common? |
| Answer: | Nothing! |
What started as a side line hobby about 30 years ago has now become another one of Hi-Lights achievements and services to the local central Victoria area. Did you know that billiard tables have been around since before the 1600's? The earliest evidence found for the existence of Billiards played on a table was in 1470 in an inventory of items purchased by King Louis XI of France. Listed were "billiard balls and billiard table for pleasure and amusement". Earliest mentions in England were in 1588 when Billiard tables were in the possession of The Duke of Norfolk and the Earl of Leicester as well as Mary, Queen of Scots, who had a billiard table in her prison cell while she awaited execution for the attempted assassination of Queen Elizabeth I.
Although many countries have been credited with the invention of the game, nothing has been proven as to its origin. However, it is said to have evolved from a lawn game which gives the reasoning of the traditional green cloth. In the early days most tables were a dark timber colour with green cloth but nowadays you can customise the look & style of your table. You can choose from a range of different stains or painted finishes, you can even get it stained to match a piece of furniture that is already in your home. The cloth also comes in a range of colours, ranging from your traditional green cloth to black or purple; even gold cloth is available. Tables come in various sizes but are generally always twice as long as they are wide.
